Purchasing a traditional log house often comes with a significant challenge: how to adapt rigid, load-bearing wooden structures to a modern lifestyle?
In our latest project, we faced a layout where every wall was a structural element. Here’s how we solved it:
- Minimizing Structural Intervention: Instead of complex demolition, we added a single strategic gypsum partition. It serves as a TV mount and a visual divider, separating the guest area from the living room.
- Scale Correction: The original fireplace was too small for the space. We transformed it into a dominant architectural volume using custom tiling and an integrated firewood storage.
- Narrative Design: Inspired by a 100-year-old oak on the property, we introduced a “Forest Theme.” We used high-end Sanderson and Morris fabrics to bridge the gap between the wooden interior and the surrounding landscape.
- Texture Contrast: To break the monochrome wood palette, we integrated vibrant majolica tiles on the kitchen island and natural linen textures.
The result? A home that respects traditional craftsmanship while offering contemporary comfort.
