Lighting Scenario for a Multifunctional Plastic Surgery Space
1. Introduction and Project Specifics
Currently, our project in Hamburg is at its final stage — this is a plastic surgery clinic. The clinic’s main functions are initial examinations, consultations, and minimally invasive procedures. In addition, lecture days and meetings (meeting points) will be held here. Therefore, when designing the lighting, we looked for solutions and a concept specifically for multifunctional spaces. We needed to make it so that in the exact same space one could conduct a medical examination (which requires bright cold light), work with documents, invite guests to a lecture or presentation, and also celebrate something as a team.
2. Technical Solutions and Lighting Scenario
Personally, I am a fan of light, I study it as a science and always meticulously design it in my interiors. We very often verify our solutions together with lighting technicians (light engineers) in specialized programs in order to be 100% confident in the result. Combining interior cleanliness, the general concept, and functional light is a difficult task. We want everything to look aesthetic and concise, and the luminaires themselves not to distract attention from the architecture of the space. At the same time, the interior must be qualitatively illuminated, and the light must work for the person.
XAL Modular Systems In this project, we used fixtures from XAL. Their uniqueness lies in the fact that into an 8×8 cm module we integrated eight different lighting elements with various beam angles and effects. In addition, they are equipped with Tunable White technology (DALI / Dim to Warm): the light temperature changes from 6500 K (for conducting examinations) to 2700 K (when an evening, home-like, and relaxing atmosphere is needed for events).
Vibia Atmospheric Accents In the waiting area and in the location where the largest number of people gather during lectures, we built in Vibia fixtures. In the evening, during the presentation part, they operate in RGB mode with a predominance of warm red spectrums, which creates a light, casual, almost “party-like” atmosphere.
Concealed and Functional Lighting
We incorporated a lot of concealed lighting, for example, in the display case area and inside the cabinets. When the cabinets are closed, they look like concise panels. But as soon as you open them, an integrated sink, concealed lighting, and an area for hygiene products are revealed inside. This allows you to quickly wash your hands and conduct an examination, and after closing the doors, the office once again turns into a cozy space for reflection, completely devoid of a sterile “medical” look.
